Think universal design and make packages easier to use

Among those touting this approach is the International Standards Organization (ISO). Its guidelines offer ideas on packaging design that can help aging consumers globally. Among the principles:

  • Make the copy easy to read, and sometimes add Braille and tactile clues to communicate
  • Clearly identify product name, expiration dates and essential information
  • Use color to distinguish among packages of the same shape
  • Make the opening mechanism clearly visible
