Hot packaging tactic in 2010: Drill for insights

Drilling deeper for insights is a tactic more leading-edge packagers are using as they adapt to the new normal. That is what the PTIS team heard repeated consistently in the major spring package development conferences. Packagers are driven to the in-depth approach as consumers demand more value in a tighter economy. In depth analysis is also delivering cost savings. Here are some places the tactic is having the most impact:

  • Package design. Leading edge packagers are probing deeper to find ways to engage the consumer and foster trust.
  • Research. The mantra is to look at what people do, not what they say. Then find out why they did what they did.
  • Sustainability. The most effective programs embrace both people and business needs.
